Ne-Yo - In My Own Words

It's been a while since any new R&B artists have come along with any form of talent that went beyond the pure pop and dance club variety. It seems as though that might change with the emerging talents of the young songwriter Ne-Yo and his debut album In My Own Words.

With his second single being So Sick, a chart topping slow jam about being so distraught over a breakup, that he doesn't want to listen to the radio or be reminded in anyway of the girl he's lovesick over. This track definitely has the catchiest beat on the album, not to say the others aren't that good, but the strings and claps on the song fit perfectly.

From there on we move to When You're Mad, a catchy song about seeing his girl even sexier and more appealing when they are in the middle of a fight. Although it sounds a little cheesy, it still works. The same can also be said for Mirror. A song basically about loving to make love in front of a mirror....Novel concept but it can't help but sound a little corny. Maybe it's just me though, I've always had a hard time taking those kinds of songs seriously.

My newfound highlight of the album would have to be Get Down Like That, a song about finding that one girl, and talking to all his past flings about changing his ways.

A great back from Usher's and Chris Brown's of the world is Ne-Yo. A very good, young songwriter who shows that he has alot of offer than your typical R&Bers out now.

4.0 out of 5
