The Subways - Young For Eternity

If you haven't heard of The Subways yet, which likely you haven't if you are from America, hopefully you will soon enough. I came across them on none other than MySpace, scoping out some new talent to give a little limelight to. What I wound up finding is a great, energetic young group of punk rockers from England ready to enter the mainstream rock scene.

The Subways is consistent of three players, Billy on guitar and lead vocals, Charlotte on bass and Billy's brother Josh on drums. Their is also a pretty heavy relationship between Billy and Charlotte, being that they are engaged. Basically just think Oasis with a little bit of estrogen added to the mix if you ever think about what it'd be like to be in the band.

The album gets off to a great start with What You've Got To Say, starting with a slow strumming of the guitar and turning into a fast paced banger with an incredibly catchy hook nailed by Billy's vocals. Followed one track later by the lead single, Rock And Roll Queen a song that isn't very hard to figure out who the subject is about as long as you are privy to the relationship between Charlotte and Billy. Where the Subways really shine is Mary, a brilliant example of british power punk rock at it's finest. Reminding you of past Oasis glory, but also hinting at completely powerful entity on it's own.

One of the biggest things that stands out in this album, that you can pick up immediately after the first listen is the sheer raw sound of it all. Probably being a combination of the bands energy that they put into the music and the freshness they are to the music industry.

Some verses may be lacking in some spots, or you wish Josh could punch it just a little bit more on the drums, but without a doubt Billy Lunn can write an ass kicking hook.

I feel like I've wrapped up alot of reviews this way.... "Keep on the lookout for these guys...." "These guys have potential"... But in all sincerity I mean it about The Subways with Young For Eternity. A bit rough and raw around the edges, it still makes for a great listen. Whether its when you driving down the freeway cranking up Young For Eternity (the song) or relaxing with your headphones listening to the great melody in Mary. Pick this album up. Now.
