God hates America. He also hates Sweden, Canada, and he particularly don’t care for those filthy, disgusting fags, no matter where they live. He was responsible for destroying the World Trade Center, laughed as He killed hundreds of thousands of people with that little water trick of His called the tsunami, blew up the Space shuttle, had his hand in the Pearl Harbor attack and likes to use diseases like AIDS to eliminate undesirables. Apparently God is no one to mess with when He is angry and boy is He angry. So says Shirley L. Phelps-Roper, civil rights attorney and leading spokesperson for the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, an Old School Baptist church established by her father, Pastor Fred Phelps, in 1955. Their congregation adheres strictly to the teachings of the Bible, preach against all forms of sin, and insist that the doctrines of grace by John Calvin, known as Calvinism, be taught publicly to all men. She also says that Reggie White, Pat Tillman, Nick Berg, and Ronald Reagan are all spending eternity in hell, that the US Army is an army of fags, and that Americans will be eating their babies soon. And believe it or not, I first heard about Shirley on the Howard Stern Show, of all places, where her and her family are frequent guests. Shirley, on her most recent appearance on the show, thanked God for the death and devastation of the recent tsunami tragedy. It was then that I decided to contact her and see if she would like to do an interview for the Planet.

I emailed my request to Shirley after visiting her website, www.GodHatesFags.com... or was it www.GodHatesAmerica.com? Wait, it could have been www.GodHatesCanada.com or maybe www.GodHatesSweden.com It was one of those sites. I know it wasn’t her new website, www.GodSentTheTsunami.com. That one is still under construction. Surprisingly, that name wasn’t taken. (Apparently, God doesn’t hate the internet.) I didn’t really think that Shirley would respond but hey, why not? To my amazement, Shirley wrote back and gave me her phone number to call to arrange for an interview. Thank you Jesus. I had a few questions about the Bible I needed answered and what better person to ask then Shirley. I made the call. Shirley answered. I told her who I was and asked her what day and time would be good to do the interview. "Lets do it now. Give me a minute.", she said. Thank God I had scribbled down a few questions before I called. Shirley came back on and away we went, on a wing and a prayer. Despite me being unprepared and Shirley being a little weary coming off of two days of picketing in Washington D.C., I think it came out pretty decent.

In this first 13 minute clip, Shirley talks about her favorite Stern appearance in Sin City, what the Bible says about fags, the validity of the Ten Commandments, the difference between moral law vs ceremonial law, the "judge not" lie, and calls me an undisciplined flopping fish.

In this final 14 minute clip Shirley gives a warning to Howard, talks about the MissButtaface contest, gives her thoughts on Daniel Carver and the KKK, drops the S bomb, reveals that God hates fundementalist Christians too because of their intolerance, talks about her picketing at the recent Bush inaugural ceremony, explains how America has now become Iraq, and admits that she isn't crystal clear on all parts of the Bible but still loves it all.

Does God really hate fags? Does he hate America? Is he really a hateful God who destroyed all those people with the tsunami just like he flooded the world back in Noah's time? While I was writing this article, I received an email from a member of my message board, lilmisScantBwrong , who just so happened to email me a prayer about a different God, a loving one. It was really eerie the timing considering I was online and writing this article (something I normally never do) and the fact that I have never received an email like this from her before or from anyone for that matter. An omen? A sign from God? In this email was a picture of the new stamp the Unitied States is putting out in September of this year in honor of the people that lost their lives on 9-11. God is standing over the smoke filled skies of New York City at ground zero. Only one problem-- we don't see his face. Is he crying like many of us that day or is he laughing and admiring His latest attack on America as Shirley might suggest?

How the hell do I know Connie?

One thing I do know for sure is that I disagree totally with Shirley when she says that Howard Stern is not doing God's work. If it weren't for Howard, I would never have even heard of Shirley L. Phelps-Roper or someone like Daniel Carver and their messages. In His mysterious way I believe God is working through Howard just like He is working through Shirley, like He works through me and through you, everyday. By the way, I might be wrong about this. I guess we will all find out someday, won't we?
