The King Of Cable

Prank calls have always been a big part of the Howard Stern show. There are basically two types of prank calls. There are the Jerky Boys/Crank Yanker type calls like "Yaay, I got mail" from Jim Florentine, calls made to regular folk at their home or business, and then there are the Captain Jank type calls where calls are made to live TV or radio shows, calls meant to disrupt and derail the program, trying to evoke a funny reaction from the host or hosts. And the reaction can be "quite the tenses." Today's featured Shrine inductee is a prank caller out of the Captain Janks mold. He made several calls over a decade ago at the mere age of 15, calling TV and radio shows dropping the Howard Stern bomb. They called him The King of Cable back then and he made such an impact, several pages of Howard's book were dedicated to him. The King went off to college and lost touch with the Stern show but was reunited with the show a few weeks ago, making an appearance at the Sirius studios. After his appearance, I contacted The King of Cable on his myspace for an autograph and interview, and he didn't disappoint.
Doc: How did you like being on the show? Was that your first time in the
studio? What was it like being mentioned in Howard's book back then as a
15 year old?
King Of Cable: I enjoyed being on the show a lot. It was fucking wild and
a great experience. It was my first time at the new Sirius studios. Being
mentioned and written (several pages) about in a book that sold millions of copies
at the age of 15 is pretty fucking awesome. It is an honor that Howard loved
my artwork that much!
Doc: How did this reunion come about?
King Of Cable: The reunion came about when I contacted them and told them
I wanted to visit and they invited me. I think it would be great if they did a
whole Howard Stern convention like the Star Trek type. It would be a blast! |
| Doc: Did you stay in touch with the show all these years, listening? What did you
take up in college. what do you do now for a living? |
King Of Cable: I have always been a loyal dedicated fan. As far as college goes
I have degrees in Marketing and Communications. For my job that I have I will
not disclose any information. |
| Doc: Why now after all these years did you reach out? |
| King Of Cable: I think I reached out because I smell a comeback!!! Haha,,,
that is all I will say!! |
|
|
| Doc: What was your favorite call or favorite experience from back then? |
| King Of Cable: Fuck so many good calls. I just really liked pissing off the
local call in shows in the DC Area where I am from. I especially liked fucking
with Armstrong Williams and Jim Bohannon. So many people I would fuck with
and when they snapped I would get my rocks off!!! |
| Doc: Did you save all of your calls? Can you give us any for this article? |
| King Of Cable: I have a lot of my calls saved but they are everywhere. I
have moved a lot. Have you noticed that they have been playing an intro weekly
on the show with my calls. What an honor. |
| Doc: Is there any call you felt bad about doing after? |
| King Of Cable: Nope, I have never felt bad about doing a call. Hey we all
have our own unique style of humor. I feel that if you cross the line it’s even
more entertaining! |
| Doc: Who is your favorite phoney phone caller? Who was your biggest
influence? Captain Janks or someone else? |
| King Of Cable: Captain Janks is a huge influence as well as the guys who use
to make the call to the Tube Bar in Jersey. That was some funny shit. Even
the Simpsons copied the tube bar calls. Janks is very creative and I love his work. |
| Doc: Tell us about Captain Janks and the time you two spent together. Are
you attracted to him in a gay way? |
| King Of Cable: Fuck off you idiot |
| Doc: Any good behind the scenes stories to share with the fans from your appearance? |
|
|
| King Of Cable: Yes, everyone is very nice. Artie is the size of a god damn
fucking elephant. He is 2 seconds away from a heart attack if he doesn’t get
some help. |
| Doc: Who was your favorite to meet? Anyone you didn't like? |
| King Of Cable: The whole staff are just great people and treated me with
respect. Ronnie has somewhat of a fucking attitude. I really liked meeting Kevin
the intern!!! Yummy! |
Doc :The members of my board are having fun doing your kind of calls only we
call Stern shows on Howard 100 and 101 and mention our fan site, www.howardshrine.net. We love the reaction they cause. Even Howard called one
of our callers an asshole last week.

You say you are coming out of retirement. Any chance we can recruit you to become
one of our Shrine bombers? |
| King Of Cable: FUCK NO! |
| Doc: How do you like the calls Sal and Richard are doing? |
| King Of Cable: They are fucking great. I cry laughing sometimes. They
are fucking great. Sal even admitted he stole my black voice. |
| Doc: What's the biggest cock you ever had up your ass? |
| King Of Cable: HaHa. |
| Doc: How did you like doing the super fan roundtable show? |
King Of Cable: Superfan was a waste. It should have been more on me. All I have
to say is that if I want to drink then damn it let me drink when I am doing a radio show. The roundtable is aped in a glass studio where Sirius employees can
see in as they walk by. The host Mutt got mad that I was making drinks out in the open. They asked that I keep my bottle hidden underneath the table but I was running low on Gin and needed a refill for God's sake can't a brotha have some gin?
Well guys visit me on myspace page and be expecting the King of Cable to make a come back down the road. If you are young cute and into gay sex drop me an email!! Thanks for everyone supporting me and remember enjoy life and enjoy your friendships, family and the people you love because one day they won’t be around. Life is what you make of it!!! |
Doc: Thanks The King of Cable for the interview and autographs, and most of all for all the great calls. The King, unfortunately, was not able to provide us any of his calls for his article. I thought that maybe you all would enjoy some of the Shrine Bomb calls from the Shrine bombers of www.howardshrine.net that were inspired by the work of The King and The Captain.
