It’s contest time again on the Howard Stern show. http://www.howardstern.com/restless.html If anyone can make something out of this Restless, Restless "song" that Vinnie Favale and Tom Gesimondo wrote, $5,000 would be theirs. Hmmm…The last time I asked someone to enter one of Howard’s contest I ended up almost arrested and cited for criminal trespassing. (tomorrow is the hearing) But when this contest was announced and Vinnie said on the air that his song in his opinion would make a good rap song, this was a no-brainer. Only one man came to mind: from the home of Michael Jackson, the one they call Lyrical Lizard. Lyrical Lizard is the rapper from Gary, Indiana responsible for the songs on the Beetlejuice Uncensored DVD that you may have heard on the show. Whose got the juice? Lyrical Lizard is who. He has been making waves in the music industry ever since. Thankful for his exposure on Howard’s show the driven Lizard started looking for other opportunities closer to home and it is paying off. Recently he has become somewhat of a regular on the Mancow show. But his ties to Howard run deep thanks to Beetlejuice and food. You know those white things in your mouth that you chew food with. You see Lyrical is the proud owner of something very special and rare.

A couple of years ago I visited Beetlejuice’s website, www.jollydwarf.com and I saw that Sean, his manager, was conducting an auction on a tooth lost by Beetlejuice. Now THAT is some cool memorabilia I thought. I emailed Sean and suggested to him that if he didn’t sell the tooth maybe he could donate it to the shrine. He got back to me and told me that he decided not to sell the tooth and instead would loan it to me to display in my collection. Awesome!! I told him to just say the word whenever he wanted it back and on display it went. Many fans have toured the shrine and have taken a gander at the tooth including my dentist and took one look at it and said "Easiest $70 you can make. Gum disease, just pull that sucker right out with your fingers." In fact that is what Beet did again THIS time to his biggest tooth in Vegas. (hmm, that gives me an idea…haha) A year or so later after receiving the tooth Rev Bob and company including Beetlejuice were coming to my town to do a comedy show. Sean contacted me a few weeks before and asked if I would come to the show and return the tooth. He wanted to gold-plate it and wear it around his neck. As per our agreement I said that I would, no problem. But before I gave up one of my prize possessions I talked to a jeweler friend of mine. "He doesn’t want to plate that.", he said,. "It will be difficult and besides it will wear off. He should make a mold of it." "Make a mold? Say, if we make a mold of it we could mass produce them and sell them. "RICH!!!! RICH!!!!! I’M GOING TO BE RICH!!!!" Hahaha I ran the idea past Sean and we decided to give it a try, making ten of them, 5 for him and 5 for me.

Sean took his five and after trying to sell them on his site for a couple of weeks and getting no response he gave them to his crew: one to his wife, one to Puppet, two to Beet, and one for himself. I was hoping he would give one to Howard on the air but he never did. The ones I had I decided to give to the best Stern fans I know. I sent one each to the best fansite webmasters, True Fans of Stern: Dean from deansplanet.com, Mark from markfriggin.com, Kevin from koam.com and one for myself. The fifth one I had had a defect in it and I was going to return it to the jeweler. As instructed by Sean I brought the 5 pieces of jewelry to the comedy show. I also brought the one defect to show Sean. Sean, however, didn’t make it that night. He had gotten into a fight with the owner of the club the night before. Haha I gave the jewelry to Rev Bob to deliver to Sean, he would be seeing him again later that week. At some point I showed Jim Florentine who was also performing that night the defect. He didn’t think it looked that bad. It’s yours, I said. Jim has always been such a cool guy to me. He even took the time between radio interviews the last time in town to make the trip and tour the shrine. He was definitely worthy of being a tooth brother. And that was about it on the tooth project until a short time ago Pond, a super member on my message board, www.howardshrine.net who knew about the jewelry mentioned it in our of her posts. Lyrical Lizard read her comments, contacted me and asked if he could get one from me so that we could wear it when he did some radio appearances promoting the Beetlejuice DVD and he needed it like yesterday. Wanting to help out and no time to get any made, I sent him mine. Lyrical in return sent me, an autograph photo of himself, one of his L.I.F.E cds, an autographed Beetlejuice VHS signed by the Beet, and authorization from Sean to make 5 more pieces. He also agreed to do an Exclusive interview for The Planet. Nice. I asked the lovely Pond for help with this interview and she submitted some questions for the Lizard. Thank you Pond and thank you Lyrical Lizard for the cool stuff and interview.

Doc: What are your long term goals in the music industry?

Lizard: I’m doing them right now. My main goals were to have my music played and heard by millions of listeners a day. Well, I'm being played for 14 million plus listeners a day on "Mancow's Morning Madhouse" with the theme song I did for the #1 radio show in Chicago and in syndication. Another goal was to get my name and music on the retail store shelves forever and I'm doing that this year too with the release of the "Beetle Uncensored" DVD along with my second release entitled "The Lizard Of Oz!!!".Those along with the worldwide calabs (collaborations) thru the internet. My main goal was to have people remember the name "Lyrical Lizard".

Pond: Why "lizard"? Do you own any pet lizards?
Lizard: They call me Lizard because of my style//A cold blooded creature and ruthless reptile//So let me slide in ladies and I'll rock you to oblivion//you've had those other snakes before but not this dope amphibian// haha!!!...Just clowning...Lizard? I've really never told anyone why the name "Lizard" and it is a question that has been asked over and over by many of fans. I’ve had that name since around the age of 7 and can't really explain why they call me that. Myself all I know is it was said as a kid and it stuck all though school and into my 20's. I can tell you I put the name lyrical in front of it for the music and it kinda went together but the name Lizard has always been around and most people on the streets don't even know my real name and don't ask they just call me Lizard...The ladies seem to love it!!! :)~ As for Lizard pets? None, but do like all kind of reptiles except snakes. Lizard does not like snakes at all.
Pond: What is the hardest part of the music Industry?
Lizard: The hardest part is making a name for yourself and self-promotion. Nobody is gonna go buy a CD from some no-name artist that they have never heard of or isn't making any noise in the music industry. The biggest strain on an artist to me was knowing that you have the talent and ability to make it in the game and not knowing how to be heard. Doc: What sort of things do you do to promote yourself and get the word out that you're a serious artist? Lizard: If I told you that I'd have to kill you G .haha!!! On da real, It's all about hard work and not taking no for an answer. I never listen to people when they laughed and said that I couldn't do it because of where I’m from or the color of my skin. You keep knockin'? Eventually they gonna open that door is what it basically boils down to yall. As far as TV and DVD projects? They all heard about Lyrical Lizard thru internet friends or WORD OF MOUTH!!! which is the best promotional tool you can have on your side so remember that. They tell 2 friends and they tell 2 friends is like the domino effect playaz so go knock that shit over and it will all fall into place.
Doc: What other major names are you working with Lyrical?
Lizard: Well, for the past year I have been making music for Chicago's #1 syndicated radio show "Mancow's Morning Madhouse" also know as q.101.1 fm wkqx alternative rock which airs Mon-Fri from 5:30 to 10:00 am. As far as locally I spoke with Ric Jill (Gary Indiana) a while back on a calab already. Just haven't jumped in the studio and got that done yet, Other locals would be Grind Family (Gary In) and Vizion (Gary In).On the national scene I already did a skit for this next CD with Aristotle who is actually Ken Kaniff from Eminem's Slim Shady LP and some other major names you'll have to wait for. I'd like to calab with Remedy, Cage, Necro, and on the alternative I’m working on getting a calab with Kid Rock.
Pond: Hey lizard I understand you have a very unique piece of jewelry can you tell us something about it?
Lizard: Yes I do, That’s funny you asked too. It is a silver plated tooth that is molded from the actual tooth that Howard Stern's "Beetlejuice" had lost back a few years ago. Doc had told me about him receiving the actual real tooth from manager Sean Rooney and making a few silver charm replicas of "Beetlejuice's Tooth" and wanted to know if i was interested in one. Me being a friend and an avid Beetlejuice fan and collector since day one, I asked Doc if he would send me one and Doc was so kind to give me his own personal copy. I also talked to Sean Rooney for Doc to ask about making a few more for close friends and one will be a PRIZE in a contest we will be hold at www.howardshrine.com and www.lyricallizard.com so stay tuned.
Doc: How did you hook up with Beetle?
Lizard: Well I met Beetlejuice's manager like 3 years ago online and he had heard that I did some very good music and I told him I was a big Beetlejuice fan and would like to do some theme songs for him. He greatly accepted and two of my tunes were added to an up coming Beetlejuice DVD release entitled beetle uncensored which hits stores worldwide 07-20-04 a must see video for the avid Beetlejuice and Howard Stern fan alike. The songs are also on my first released entitled L.I.F.E. and you can pick that up here http://www.lyricallizard.com/store.html
Doc: How did you meet Mancow?
Lizard: Well a little over a year ago there was advertisement in the post tribune that Mancow Muller was coming to Valporaiso, Indiana as part his book signing tour. I happened to be out in that area when we saw the line at Barnes and Noble so I decided to go in and take a look at this rouge radio host known as Mancow. I had heard him and been a loyal listener for years but wanted to see the Mancow behind the microphone. I walked up and I remembered I had some of my debut CD entitled L.I.F.E., lizard-in-full-effect I had just released at the time in my car and I saw people dropping gifts into a basket as they approached the man to get their books signed. I figured I’d leave him a few CDs and get one signed myself. As I tried to ease my way up I was told I had to buy a book if I wanted to talk take pics or give him a gift. So I waited in line for over 3 hrs just to get a chance to meet the Mancow they call Mancow. I had sent in CDs and wrote him in the past with no response or  airplay but I knew if I got a chance to talk to him about my music and show him my CD and how serious I was about my career that something positive would come out of the whole situation and the it would be well worth the 3 hr wait in line. Anyway as it was my turn to get my book signed he noticed that I had a Beetlejuice t shirt and being an avid lover of freaks himself it must have really caught his eye. I was expecting a comment referring to Howard Stern since they have had their fair share of controversy over the years but he looked at me and said "Hey I know that midget on your t-shirt" That’s Beetlejuice and I said "oh yea? you mean him" and laid down my CD in front of him which happens to have Beetlejuice, the jolly dwarf gracing my back CD cover. He laughed and said "Whose CD is this?" and looked up at me. I laughed and responded "That’s me." Having Chicago on the front cover seemed to catch his eye as well and he said he had heard of me and that I had sent him music and letters in the past. So I left him a few CDs to check out and he asked me to leave my number on one CD and the rest is history. That Monday he was airing an Eminem skit off of my debut L.I.F.E. CD and I told him I would love to do some music for the show. The next week I recorded a theme song for the Mancow Morning Madhouse show and it hit the airwaves so big that they made it into a syndicated commercial for the show. Since then I have completed a total of 8 songs being aired and heard across the syndicated airwaves and Lyrical Lizard has become somewhat of a household name.
Doc: So you have been contributing to the show? What have you done recently?
Lizard: Well, I have made a comedy spoof from the well known song "hey ya'" called "man' cow'" which airs often and you can read about here http://www.lyricallizard.com/tribune.html and also a 1-888-2-mancow call number for the show that he and the crew really enjoyed.
Doc: What other stars have you met since you have been in the industry?
Lizard: Well at the cubs opening day at Wrigly Field, Mancow had called me up on stage to perform and the special guest was Chris Jericho from W.W.E.. wrestling. Being a longtime wrestling fan for many years it was a pleasure to meet one of today’s W.W.E. superstars.
Doc: What is the Cow really like?
Lizard: You know what I’m gonna be dead serious on this subject. I don't know how someone can feed into a radio show so deep that they cannot establish fiction from reality and understand that he is a radio personality. I have had my fair share of drama and disses on his show including me writing an Eminem d12 Mancow diss song that really slams his ego. http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/lyrical-lizard-diss2.mp3 He liked it so much that he called me personally to tell me about it. You can hear that here http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/cow-voicemail.mp3 but when it comes down to man to man? he is one of the most intelligent, down to earth, caring, family oriented people you could ever meet on the street. http://www.lyricallizard.com/store.html
Doc: So what are some of the things that you did to keep your head straight and accomplish all that you have so far in the industry?
Lizard: A strong firm believe in GOD and that all things are possible if you want them bad enough, to never give up and always strive for success no matter what trials and tribulations. I’ve been called everything in the media and I do mean everything, as you can see in these clips http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/llizard-memorialday.mp3 http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/fresh_prince_of_indiana.mp3 here but I always retaliate and when the smoke clears I end up on top. thanks you lyrical lizard
Doc: I understand you recently had a run-in with the law and Mancow found out. What happened?
Lizard: Yes, it was basically some bogus misdemeanor charges that Mancow hyped up for his show to make some media hype Mancow was always looking for a way to get back at Lyrical Lizard for making the Eminem d12 Mancow diss against him. Lizard went out and got into some bogus legal shit with his family and friends during Memorial Day and being the "local celeb" Lyrical is, the news media decided to print an article knowing it would get back to Mancow radio and he would blown it way out of proportion. Here’s what broke the next day live on the airwaves...lol http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/llizard-memorialday.mp3
Even though this was all part of the Mancow show for entertainment purposes, Lyrical wasn't about to sit back and listen to the media try to stain his name and released a come back comedy parody entitled "Fresh Fish and Hot Air" a spoof from the well know 90's TV sitcom "Fresh Prince of Bel Air." Mancow loved it so much that he personally called Lizard to tell him himself and he told the brief story and debuted the new song on 06-15-04.
Here's the song live on q 101.1 they were rollin... http://www.lyricallizard.com/sounds/lizard-freshfish-onair1.mp3
Doc: Any advice to people looking to make it in the music industry themselves?
Lizard: Yes, remember this people, there are haterz in the media that will try to stain your name and love to see an artist or celebrity personality in some drama...just look at Michael, Kobe Bryant, Jason Williams, R. Kelly, and the list goes on and on. You have to expect that from the media when you put yourself in the industry...so all artists, think really hard about if you really want this dream to become reality and if your answer is yes? then be prepared to take the bad as well as the good cause they will try to eat you alive people...one thing you should remember, GOOD PROMO AND BAD PROMO IS STILL PROMO and for them to take time to write or talk about you then YOU MUST BE FULLFILLING YOUR DREAMS!!! L.L.

Thanks Lyrical and without further adieu, making it's debut, here is the Lyrical Lizard’s entry into the Restless, Restless contest. Personally, I love it…………I like it………..I’ve changed my miiiinnnnddd!!!

UPDATE: Out of the thousands of entries just three songs were chosen to compete for the chance to win the grand prize of $5,000. Lyrical Lizard's song was not one of the three but it did get a play on the show and praise all across the board. Congratulations Lizard on another excellent job......unfortunately, for some odd reason that is still not clear, Howard credited the song to Kidd Chris and not the lizard man. Here is that clip
