Can I Have Your Autograph... / Billy Mira

That’s not Diamond Dave? No………Is it? Naw, that’s not music God and crazy man, David Lee Roth. Very close, but whoever it is he sure is funny. From Rich Little to Frank Gorshin, I have always loved that rare breed of comedians called the impersonators and the Howard Stern show has got quite a talented group of them. Whether it’s Craig Gass doing his Gene Simmons or my personal favorite Evil Dave doing his David Letterman, I always get a kick when they are on the show. I especially love all the listeners who call in fooled. But this was a new voice to the show and I thought, WOW!!, what a great addition. Great energy. But who is it? Someone else was also in the studio that morning, someone who sat quietly the whole time. When Howard finally introduced that someone I knew immediately who was responsible for the great performance. Hey Ozzy!!! Ah ah ah how you doing Howard? It was Billy-- Billy "Ozzy" Mira. Billy’s recent Diamond Dave appearance on the show I thought was a home run and no doubt assured him more appearances in the future. Something else also occurred that morning: Billy Mira became shrine-worthy. I contacted Billy by email the following day after hearing the broadcast and asked him for his autograph. I also asked if would do an interview for the Planet. No problem on both accounts. JUMP!!! Go on and JUMP. Might as well JUMP!! JUMP!!

I think Billy has pulled it off again and has given us another great performance with this interview. I hope you agree.
Doc: Thanks for his interview Billy. How long have you been a Stern fan?
Billy: I have been a fan for like 20 yrs! My pop used to listen to him in the morning, so I used to hear him every day in the house when I was getting ready for school. To this day it’s part of my morning, I couldn’t think of a week day morning without hearing him, or being on the show ! He is like mind coffee for adults....
Doc: How long have you been doing comedy?
Billy: I have been performing since I was 17 years old. I started out as a singer and I was also into the drama thing when I was younger. Comedy came a just a few years back when I started doing improv shows on LI and NYC.
Doc: How was the show first introduced to you and your comedy? Was the phoney phone call with High Pitch Eric the first time you were on the show or was there something previous? What was it like the first time in the studio?
Billy: Actually you are right on the money, the phoney phone call with Erik was the first time I was introduced to the show, and I have Sal the Stockbroker to thank for that. It was the biggest rush I can ever remember.... The second biggest rush was actually working on the show for the first time, and finding out how nice everyone was. The atmosphere in that studio is relaxing, fun, but very professional. No one has a stick up their ass. They make you feel like one of them, and you feel at home. That’s one of the reasons why that show has such great results day in and day out....
Doc: Your Ozzie and Diamond Dave impressions are really dead on. What others do you do?
Billy: Thank you for the compliment by the way! Actually I do a killer Robert DeNiro.
You can see a clip on my website www.billymira.com . The only problem is, it’s great when you see it, not as much when you just listen to it. But I have a ton of voices in my back pocket that I am just waiting to use. Howard recently made comments about me, comparing me to Billy West. Now all I have to say is that is the high holy compliment that I have ever heard. Billy West is a legend and I would only hope and pray into falling into that guys footsteps.

Doc: To be honest Billy I thought your one Ozzie appearance I heard fell flat, it was too long in my opinion and Ozzy seemed really out of it but I loved your recent appearance as Dave. Some real good energy. What kind of feedback did you get from Howard and the crew after each appearance? How did you see the two appearances. Which one do you like doing better?
Billy: Your honesty is greatly appreciated, but you must remember these characters have two totally different personalities, DLR and OZZY. With Dave you have to be on your toes and really get into the world according to Dave way of thinking when impersonating him. Ozzy is not nearly as much energy, so it’s harder to get punchlines off with his delivery. So you focus more on OZZY'S "out of it" state of mind, and apply that to whatever is going on. In other words OZZY is funny cause you are always struggling to understand what the hell he is saying, Dave is funny cause his answers are always quick witted, but somewhere left of center. He always leaves you thinking about what the hell he just said, but yet you somehow get it, and you laugh! And I love doing them both the same, I am huge fans of both guys so they are equal in my book of favorites.
Doc: How big is your penis?
Billy: As big as High Pitch Erik.
Doc: Have you ever got a good whiff of Benjy and if so how would you describe the smell?
Billy: He smells like a combination of Fred and Artie. They all sit so close.
Doc: Any other behind the scenes you can tell us fans about.
Billy: That show is the most honest show out there. Everything behind the scenes comes out on the air. I didn’t realize how true that was until I started working on the show.
Doc: Any upcoming projects ? How many shows are you doing now and where?
Billy: Yeah, actually I am working on a few things at the moment, including trying to create a sitcom, and I have a growing interest in short films at the moment. The other stuff unfortunately I am not at liberty to talk about yet. I have shows coming up soon, but I was very busy recently and I am booking more live shows coming up. I want to start heavy again mid May and ride a flood of shows through the summer. Dates are gonna start being posted on my website very soon....
Doc: If you and KC had a falling out would you suck his cock to patch things up?
Billy: How do you think I got on the show to begin with....
Doc: Are you a big Black Sabbath and Van Halen fan?
Billy: Huge fans of both bands. My first concert was OZZY’s Diary of a Madman tour, fucken changed my life! My pop brought me and hung for the whole show! Concerts were different then, they were whole productions. Now its only the pop artists (Britney, Janet etc.) that have those types of shows. All that shit started with the old metal bands !
Doc: What has been the funniest thing you have done with your voices? (during a performance and also in real life i.e. ordering a pizza as Ozzy, etc)
Billy: A long time ago I fooled Cabbie and Kane into thinking I was really OZZY! They put me live on the air with Sharon Osbourne, then she blew the whistle that Ozzy was standing right in front of her, and told them they were out of their minds (they were pissed) but it was all in fun. I have since laughed about it with Cabbie.
Doc: Any good stories to tell about Sal, Rev, or someone else from that gang?
Billy: I would need a whole other interview for this question, but I have a great one about me and Sal. One night me and Sal were getting ready to do sets in a club in Manhattan. Needless to say we were drinking. While one of the other comedians was on stage me and Sal decided to use the bathroom. Lets just say we pissed all over the bathroom walls and handles, everything! while screaming at the top of our lungs. As soon as we came out of the bathroom we got an ovation, then we were banned from that club for a while HA! We still laugh about it till this day. Funny thing is we didn’t even get to perform that night and we got the biggest applause break. It sure was a PISSA! Fuck em if they cant take a joke.

Doc: Thanks Billy for the great interview and stories, and good luck with your career and your future Stern appearances. If you would like to find out more about Billy please visit his website at www.billymiracomedy.com.
