First a few thoughts on the show…

- Funny that no mention of the Paula/Ryan feud emerged on the show tonight…usually the AI producers like to address internet rumors (ie; the McPhee pregnancy and the Pickler phony bumpkingate)
- Randy had some good criticism for everyone except for Chris. Paula was lucid at times and other times she was back to full on wack (like her inexplicable crying during the Yamin song). Simon was especially sharp this week and was volunteering creative criticism to the idols this week.
- David Foster was great. He didn’t mail it in and Bocelli, who’s English isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, was actually funny. This was the first set of video packages that I thought actually had anything to do with the show.
Now on to the show:
What I liked:
Chris Daughtry was great. He sang “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman” by Bryan Adams, a song I really like. Chris looked good, wearing a nice suit jacket, his vocals were good and his overall performance was excellent as always. Chris might have cemented his spot in the top 3 with his performance tonight. Chris is the class of the show right now.
Elliot Yamin sang his butt off. He brought the Donny Holloway song “A song for you”. His vocals were flat-out fantastic, but the arrangement of the song (as commented on by Randy) was bad, I really enjoyed Elliot’s performance and think that he may be a great jazz singer some day. I don’t think he will be the next American Idol though. He needs a shave and a haircut.
What was just there:
Taylor Hicks performance wasn’t awful, but once again, I think that he may be a victim of a bad arrangement. They cut 2 verses out of “Just Once”, a great song by James Ingram and Taylor didn’t seem sure of himself at times during the song. Sporadically, he was off key, which he usually covers by improvising with a slide, but he didn’t seem as comfortable singing this song as he has been in the past with other songs. He was wearing a tux jacket and looked like he worked at a movie theater….get back to the college professor look Taylor!!! Good, but not great. Paris Bennett is normally a strange little fidget and this week was no exception, she was wearing a wardrobe that wouldn’t have gotten her laid at Century Village, it was really bad. Her hair was flat-ironed and swooped, it wasn’t great, but at least she was not wearing one of those ridiculous hairpieces again. The song she sang was “The Way We Were”; a Barbra Streisand classic, she did decent enough, but I have grown tired of her oversinging and sloshing around notes. That stuff worked for the Little Rascals, but it just doesn’t work for me. She didn’t sing bad enough to get sent home tonight, but she certainly didn’t set the world on fire.
 What was God-Awful:
Katherine McPhee wasn’t completely awful, but she wasn’t good either. She sang a Whitney Houston song “I have nothing” and like Randy said, if you sing Whitney or Mariah, you just gotta kill it. She killed it alright, but not in a good way. Katherine is a screamer with her high spots, there is nothing subtle about her vocal ascensions and she often finds herself sharp and unable to correct, until she gets back into her comfort zone. Her dress, while showing off more cleavage than ever before, was waaaaay too tight and apparently, she had a wardrobe malfunction down south…I didn’t see it; I was concentrating on her vocal performance (ahem). The color of her dress (banana yellow) was absolutely dreadful. Her hair and makeup were as good as I’ve ever seen them…she is a beautiful girl, but this may be her last week on the show. You have to kill every week, or put on a bumpkin act that will win voters…she has neither, she’s a snob.
Kellie Pickler was balls out terrible. I actually cringed several times during “Unchained Melody”, it didn’t belong on the audition show, much less the final 6. Ugh, ptoooey. I couldn’t even comment on her outfit, because I was too transfixed by the fecal matter coming out of her mouth, mein gott im himmel that was rotten. The sad thing about this, is she is probably not going home tonight because of the brainless bumpkins voting for her….shame really.
My Bottom 3:
Kellie
Katherine
Paris
Probable Bottom 3:
Katherine
Paris
Elliot
Who should go home:
Kellie
Who will go home:
Elliott
Update: For once America took my advice and Pickler is gone. At least we didn’t have to listen to Unchained Melody again….
