YOUR American Idol Finale Recap

This jacket IS Barney Purple… First a few thoughts on the show:
- Way, way, way too many shots of the Family McPhee, between the horrified looks Mama McPhee was making during Katherine’s first “single” and Papa McPhee’s crocodile tears, I am McPhed up. Please, stop already.

- Who is this Douchebag and why do I have to keep seeing his face? He finished in 6th place last year, why does he rate over Scott Savol or Vonzell Solomon?
- Paula was still incoherent and Simon actually called her on it this week. “What you said makes no sense”; that made me laugh and laugh.
- Overall, a mediocre show last night, but I really would have rather heard some songs picked for the idols by the Judges that we have NOT heard before, rehashing songs that we know they can sing is pointless.

- Isn’t this a match made in heaven??
- Which brings me to the “Idol” singles, they were both just, bad….and the choir robes? Feh.
Now on to the Show:
What I liked:
I don’t remember liking Taylor Hick’s version of Livin for the City this much the first time I heard it…man, was it good. He sang it well, got the crowd so fired up, that they wouldn’t shut up when Randy was trying to make his comments. Simon was right as always though, that jacket looked like bollocks. I don’t know what Taylor was thinking when he picked that out, but his performance was so good, I guess he could have worn an Adidas track suit and it would have gone over.

Katherine McPhee’s version of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” was very good, but I had a problem with the fact that she just sang it last week….there ought to be a law, but there ain’t, so I guess I will just tell you guys to look at my review from last week to see how I felt about it. I will say this, that girl really can’t dress. Taylor’s first idol single, “Do I make you Proud” was your basic schlocky song, but Taylor really put his own spin on the song and kicked it up about 12 notches. I have to give him credit for making the best of a bad situation, as it’s hard to make a song you’ve never heard into something listenable. I had a problem with the goofy choir coming out and hamming it up with him, but they did the same thing to McPhee, so I guess it’s only fair. This performance put him over the top in my crappy opinion.
What was just okay:
Katherine re-did “Black Horse and Cherry Tree” which was, okay, but kind of a dopey song to bring out in the finals. I really didn’t like it the first time she did it and I thought it was okay this time, but Taylor kind of killed any positive heat she had from this song with “Livin’ for the City”. She was back in her maternity clothes again, by the way.
Taylor did a passable version of “Levon”, I liked the version he did for the top 24 better, it was more intimate and it felt less forced. It was alright, but I didn’t feel that same smile that I felt when I saw him sing it the first time. The guy is an excellent performer, but this time, he had problems with vocalization and staying on pitch, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. Thank the Deity of your parent’s choice that he didn’t wear that horr-awful velvet jacket again.
Who left something awful in the bed:
Kat’s first idol single, “My Destiny” was a complete mess. She was out of her vocal range (too low), she allowed the backup singers to take lead again (3rd time this year) and she had too many problems with tonality and pitch. The song itself didn’t help her at all as the judges noted (although, they were kinder about her performance and I don’t understand why) but overall, it was just crap. Kat has this tendency to start putting on an air, when she senses things aren’t going her way and that really bugs me. If she wanted to win me over, she should have been more humble, but humility is not her gimmick, it’s Taylor’s, so you get what you get. I wonder why Kat didn’t ask the arranger to move the song up at least 2 keys….what’s up with that?
Who won this sucka? TAYLOR Freaking HICKS
Seriously, if Taylor doesn’t win this, the fix is in….no doubt about it.
YOUR American Idol Finale Results Show Recap

Whooooooooo!
First, A lot of thoughts on the show:
- I really enjoyed this show, it jam packed full of guest stars and I was entertained even when the performances turned smelly.
- This was seriously, the best, most diverse final 12 in the history of the show.
- I am officially sick of Paula and her retarded midget clap. Have you guys ever noticed that?

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? You’re fricking FIRED!!!

Maybe 10 years ago, this would have been something I would have wanted to see

No comment really needed, this WAS the moment of the show. God bless Clay Aiken

Beatch stole the song from Elliot…WTF
- David Hasselhoff should have a hug with McDad and they can cry together…holy crap, what’s happened to this world?
- McPheever and Kat pack are the worst names for a fan club since Clay-Mates.
What absolutely didn’t work for me:
Meatloaf and Katherine McPhee singing “It’s all coming back to me now” was just awful, Meat looked like he was back to being the heavy Meatloaf, with the red handkerchief, 3 piece suit and everything, but everything was wrong, either there was a problem with the stage monitors or Meatloaf was just flat out of tune. Kat didn’t help either, because she was having problems doing whatever it was she was trying to do.
Paris Bennett and Al Jarreau singing “We’re in this love together” was bad. Either it was in the wrong key for Mr. Jarreau or there was something wrong with him, because he couldn’t sing anything. How old is Al by the way? Man, that was just bad.
The final 6 Girls performed some kind of female medley, it was bad other than me seeing Melissa McGhee again, I forgot how cute she is…MANdisa must weigh over 3 bucks, she didn’t look good in anything they had her big ass in.
As I said earlier the Puck and Pickler vignettes were not funny or fun.
That Katherine/Taylor duet (I had the time of my life) right before the grand announcement was really, really really bad. They need to think of another song to do, I hated the original version of that crap.
What was just there:
The first number with everyone from the final 12 and Carrie Underwear all in white, was good enough for what it was, I’m not a fan of schlock numbers, but noone was really awful, so I couldn’t put it in my crap bin.
Carrie Underwear is garbage, she looked good, but her song, “Don’t forget to remember me” is bad, I’m sorry, to anyone I may offend with this, but Bo should have won that crap last year.
Taylor Hicks and Toni Braxton sang “In the Ghetto”, Taylor is great with that song, but Toni’s voice was non existent and that dress was about 6 inches too short. That girl is passé’ now, I think she is playing the NCO club at Ramstein AB Germany next weekend, remember to tip your waitress.
Elliott Yamin started out promising with U2’s “One” but, Mary J. Blige came in and hogged the rest of the song. It finished somewhere in the middle for me, but Elliott sang his part great when he wasn’t getting blasted off the stage by that beatch.
What worked for me:
Soul friggin Patrol, that crap worked for Taylor, and it worked for me. SOOOOUL PATROOOL!!!!
The Golden Idol Awards were funny for the most part. I loved seeing Crazy Dave, Rhonette, the Brokenote Trio and Michael Sandecki again. Crazy Dave’s Stage Dive and the Clay Aiken/ Michael Sandecki duet were the moments on that show, that I marked hard for.
The Top 6 Guys “Takin’ Care of Business” medley was great, especially the Chris/Bucky duet during Tobacco Road with Taylor playing the Harmonica. They sounded real good together and their voices complemented each other.
Chris Daughtry and Live singing “Mystery” was great, Chris is going to be a major player in the Nu Metal scene, mark my words. Chris is a genuine guy that deserves all the success he gets. He has a great story.
I know I am going to take some heat for this, but the Burt Bacharach medley was great, especially Elliot Yamin’s “Our House is not a Home, everyone else was excellent during this including Dionne Warwick’s version of “Walk on By”. That almost had me in tears like a little girl.
Prince is da man. I don’t know what else to say, except that I was totally surprised.
Overall, I give the show a big thumbs up. I hope everyone else liked it as much as I did.
