Jeremy Bulloch

Star Wars' Boba Fett

I was able to sit down and chat with Jeremy at the Wizard World Philly, 2005 comic book convention. He was the man in the armor of the popular Star Wars character Boba Fett! Read my complete review of the event here.
Dean S. Planet: Did you have a good weekend here in Philly?
Jeremy Bulloch: Yeah, it was a wonderful weekend. This is a big weekend for comic books, comic book artists, authors, actors, sci-fi genre, everything... wrestlers here....so it’s fun... and it’s a lovely atmosphere. You can probably hear know, the whirl going round... just muttering and noises...it’s just great.
Dean S. Planet: Did you have a Philly cheese steak yet?
Jeremy Bulloch: No, I don’t really eat them, I'm actually very much European in the way I eat, I'll eat tonite and that is my only meal. I might have a Philly steak.
Dean S. Planet: How many conventions do you attend a year?
Jeremy Bulloch: I am doing much less now, I suppose in the last five years I have done quite a few and it has been fun, so I thought I'm going to do what I want to do, unless there is something really good (work wise) coming up. Since the new film has been out, I'm doing quite a lot but then in July I will start doing things at home. I have to fix the house up, see the grandchildren and such.
Dean S. Planet: Where do you live?
Jeremy Bulloch: I live south of London
Dean S. Planet: Do you own the original Boba Fett armor?

Jeremy Bulloch:
No I don’t. I wish I would have been naughty all those years ago and taken it and put it in my bag and been gone with it. They would have said, “Where’s the outfit?” and I say, “I don’t know....”

Dean S. Planet:
You don't own any kind of Boba Fett movie props?

Jeremy Bulloch:
I’ve got memorabilia, but it is not the original. I’ve got a sort of an outfit and helmet, which is a “replica”, but it is not the real thing.

Dean S. Planet:
Where is the original, what happened to it?
Jeremy Bulloch:Well I think it's at Lucas Films, down at Skywalker Ranch. It's in an air conditioned area so stays it in good condition.
Dean S. Planet: Did you like Jar Jar Binks?

Jeremy Bulloch: Well, I didn’t dislike him. My granddaughters love Jar Jar Binks....because they’ve seen the new films rather than the old films, so they love Jar Jar Binks. No, Jar Jar Binks was fine by me but probably went on a little bit too long. When they were in trouble and were battling, it should have been more serious and it became a bit too silly.
Dean S. Planet: Exactly...
Jeremy Bulloch: You’re always going to pick faults with something and Jar Jar Binks was sometimes like the Ewoks, but it’s a character that is loved by lots of young kids.
Dean S. Planet: What is your favorite Star Wars episode?
Jeremy Bulloch: Empire Strikes Back
Dean S. Planet: That’s mine too....
Jeremy Bulloch: I think The Empire Strikes Back had everything. And it was the “center point” of what was going on with the dark side and the light....it’s a very interesting story.
Dean S. Planet: Yes! That was my favorite as well. For me it goes Empire, A New Hope, Sith, Jedi, Clones then Phantom Menace. How do you think Daniel Logan performed as a young Boba Fett?
Jeremy Bulloch: He’s a great kid, well he is not a kid now, but now he is 18. I will see him shortly and I think I am going to buy him a very weak beer since he is not allowed to drink in America. He is a nice kid
Dean S. Planet: Is he English?
Jeremy Bulloch: No, no....New Zealand
Dean S. Planet: How does it feel to still be part of an ongoing legacy and tradition?
Jeremy Bulloch: It’s nice because working in England I'm know for working in television and theater when you get a chance to come out, it is quite fun to be out from behind the mask. You need to let people know who you are.
Dean S. Planet: How uncomfortable was the suit?
Jeremy Bulloch: Not made for a human being to wear is what I always tell people, the shoes were tight, the jet pack was 35 pounds.
Dean S. Planet: What’s the most common question people ask you about your Star Wars experience?
Jeremy Bulloch: Was it hot in the costume and is it heavy!? That’s the one they always ask.
Dean S. Planet: I had that questions written down and thought you probably get that one all the time... What are your thoughts on the new movie?
Jeremy Bulloch: I’ve enjoyed it, I have seen it once at the premiere in London and it was very nice to be invited there. But I do want to see it again now. I want to sit and watch it as a fan rather than being there at the premiere with all the lights and such.
Dean S. Planet: I knew you were in the new film. I saw you. I was looking for you.
Jeremy Bulloch: That's great. I was very lucky, I only knew a few days before... So I thank God for that.
Dean S. Planet: ...and you didn’t know what part you had? You just went...
Jeremy Bulloch: Well, I knew what part I had when I was told about it...to be in the final cut was nice....so that was good news...
Dean S. Planet: Here’s the question everybody wants to know....Did Boba actually die in the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi? Did he fly out?
Jeremy Bulloch: George Lucas says, and I did ask this question, did Boba Fett indeed die in the Sarlacc Pit and he said, “Oh yeah”....
Dean S. Planet: Awwwwh
Jeremy Bulloch: But in the stories, in the books, he gets out....
Dean S. Planet: Exactly
Jeremy Bulloch: That’s what’s important....
Dean S. Planet: Even on his profile on StarWars.com, it’s left open-ended... "so does that spell the end for Boba?" They should have a Boba Fett cartoon on the Cartoon Network.
Jeremy Bulloch: Well, they are actually thinking of doing a live action television series as the next thing
Dean S. Planet: Really?
Jeremy Bulloch:  Well that's the rumor but it might not be for a couple years.
Dean S. Planet: Wow, that's great news!

There ya have it folks, that's a pretty big scoop. Lucas is planning on doing a live action Star Wars series in the future? How cool will that be. Hopefully it will center around the most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy... Boba Fett.
