'Leaping' Lanny Poffo AKA 'The Genius'

Pro Wrestling Legend
|
|
| Dean S. Planet: At what age did you realize that you wanted to be a pro wrestler? |
| Lanny Poffo: 18. I was either going to college, get a real job or become a wrestler. Thank God I made the right choice. I'm 52 and healthy, wealthy and free. |
Dean S. Planet: Where did you train and how long did it take before you pro debut?
Lanny Poffo: Angelo Poffo is my father. That's all I needed!
Dean S. Planet: Who came up with the "Genius" gimmick?
Lanny Poffo: Vince McMahon. He invented me and he phased me out when he was done with me. It was a GREAT RIDE!
Dean S. Planet: Did you write all your own poems that you read before the matches?
Lanny Poffo: YES!
Dean S. Planet: Would you consider your match with Hogan on SNME to be the pinnacle of your wrestling career? Is there anthing in particular that you remember from that match?
Lanny Poffo: YES! It was the greatest match of my life. The body-slam over the top rope was the best move in the match. The match was more comedy than serious before that. That was SUPER-SERIOUS! Nobody had ever tried it before. (not with arms FULLY extended)
Dean S. Planet: What was it like working for Vince?
Lanny Poffo: It was the greatest 8 years of my life. He NEVER bounced a check. I wish I could say that for other promoters. |
| Dean S. Planet: What is the best and worst parts of being a pro wrestler? |
| Lanny Poffo: The best is the travel. The worst is the travel. I love being there. I don't like getting there. |
| Dean S. Planet: Did you like your brother Randy's rap CD? |
| Lanny Poffo: No. I hate all forms of rap music. I like Cole Porter. |
| Dean S. Planet: Is he still angry at Hogan? |
| Lanny Poffo: Why don't you ask Randy? You guys always try to sneak Randy questions in to my interviews. Ask HIM! |
| Dean S. Planet: What are your thoughts on the recent rash of pro wrestling deaths? |
| Lanny Poffo: I'm amazed there aren't MORE! I expect many more to come. "Live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse!" That's how they live and that's how they die. I want to be like Jack LaLaine, not John Belushi. |
| Dean S. Planet: Who do you think is the greatest wrestler of all time?
|
| Lanny Poffo: Buddy Rogers |
| Dean S. Planet: How do you like your 'Classic WWE Superstars' wrestling figure? Do you think it's a good likeness of yourself? |
|
| Lanny Poffo: I love it! I wish I looked like that now. I'll never live up to that doll. |
| Dean S. Planet: You have written a book of poems called 'Limericks from the Heart and Lungs!'. What was the inspiration for the book? |
| Lanny Poffo: The fact that 3000 children start smoking every single day in North America. Also the fact that I met Shel Silverstein 2 times in my life. |
| Dean S. Planet: You will be wrestling on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship next June. Have you done this before? What are the details? |
| Lanny Poffo: I don't even know the prices (fares) yet. When I do, I'm going to put them on my web-site. I'm going to wrestle the fans! Work or shoot. Whatever they want to do. (as long as they sign the waiver) |
| Dean S. Planet: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans who haven't heard from you recently? |
Lanny Poffo: Thanks for remembering me!
Go to www.lannypoffo.com for all the latest. I expect a huge turn-out for the FREEDOM OF THE SEAS. I'm going to make sure that everybody has fun if it KILLS ME! |
