The Naked Cowboy
NYC's
Times Square Icon |
|
| Dean
S. Planet: What did
you do before you became the Naked Cowboy? |
| Naked
Cowboy: Prior to Naked Cowboy I am unaware of any
real living. I was not yet realized and therefore just going
through the motions of existence that most people go through.
Bachelors Degree in Political Science, several fitness and
nutrition certifications, personal training, a ton of jobs
with varying occupational back grounds, you know, just the
shit of distractions while trying to discover my destiny. |
| Dean
S. Planet: What inspired you to play guitar and
sing on the streets in your underwear? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I was following my dreams since I can at
first remember. Doing what I loved most at all times. I was
working out on Venice Beach in California, there while shooting
for Playgirl Magazine (May 98). I decided to take my guitar,
cowboy get up and play on the Boardwalk. I was ignored all
day. The photographer suggested playing in my underwear to
"try something different." Next day, I was on the
news, made over a hundred dollars and had chicks taking their
pictures with me all day. The rest is history and will continue
to be for all time. |
| Dean
S. Planet: How many times have you been on the
Stern Show and how hard is it to get past KC? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I was on with Howard two times (as
Naked
Cowboy), rejected successfully on E! four times (black Naked
Cowboy, hillbilly Naked Cowboy, Naked Cowgirl, Naked Gorilla).
I also sang to Howard at his birthday party and was a topic
on his show as a "most annoying guest." (One of
my most treasured accomplishments). You don't have to get
past K.C., you have to be of interest to K.C. |
"Prior
to Naked Cowboy I am
unaware of any real living." |
| Dean
S. Planet: How have your appearances on the show
affected you and your career? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I make my career every day by going out
to the people every day. Nothing else makes my career. It
will last as long as I do it and I'm not only unstoppable,
but unforgettable and trademarked (both name and image). I'm
probably the first man in history with a trademark on himself.
(Verdict still out on the legal ramification of this). |

S. Planet: Were you in NY at the time of the attacks?
If so, were you performing at the time? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I was in New
Jersey on a stair climber, preparing to go into the city for
my 145th day straight, eight hours a day. I was addicted and
a mad man. I saw WTC on the silent TV monitor as I climbed,
not even aware enough to know that I was watching NYC! When
it all became clear, I went home to Cincinnati for a week,
came back and have been there since. News agencies from around
the world then and still today see me as a corner point perspective
on the environment of NYC from the distance at which I play
from the incident. Times Square is roughly 4 1/2 miles from
WTC location. |
|
| Dean
S. Planet: What is
your favorite city to play in? |
| Naked
Cowboy: My favorite city to play in as of now is
NYC. With many tours out of the county this summer though,
I expect to have some new and exciting cities to also compete
or contend with my current favorite. |
| Dean
S. Planet: Who are your musical influences? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I listened to Kiss when I was younger cause
my brother did. My parents listened to bands such as the Eagles,
Beatles, CSN and that type of music. I never bought a CD or
tape in my life cept for Xmas presents and just never really
got into music at all. |
| Dean
S. Planet: What artists do you listen to today? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I really will listen to anything, but rarely
do. I don't dislike music, I'm so hyperactive and more interested
in what's going round in my head that when I'm alone, I listen
to that. How do you say, the miracle of existence and what
I intend to do with it is far more interesting that to listen
to the same old rhymes, rhythms and beats that just seem to
repeat over and over again on the radio. |
| Dean
S. Planet: Do you plan to tour in the future? |
"I've
been arrested 49 times..." |
| Naked
Cowboy: I will personally travel to every last
corner of the world as the Naked Cowboy as it is my destiny
to be the "Most Celebrated Entertainer of All Time." |
| Dean
S. Planet: I noticed that you write a lot on songs
about a 'Mindy'. Is this your wife, daughter..? |
| Naked
Cowboy: Mindy is my soul mate. She is my girlfriend.
I do not believe in marriage, as a free man it is not in my
personal constitution to be restrained. |
| Dean
S. Planet: Have you ever been arrested or fined
for what you do? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I've been
arrested 49 times as of today as the Naked Cowboy. 47 times
I was released without incident. For running out on CINergy
field during a Red/Mets game with a ball glove, boots, hat
and underwear, I was arrested and put on probation for one
year in Cincinnati which will come to an end next month. I
did get ESPN several times throughout the year for these stunts.
(Comisky Park, Wrigley Field, St. Louis, Cleveland). |
| Dean
S. Planet: You have
written songs about a Trans Am and your brother's ex-girlfriend.
Are there any in the works about Howard Stern? |
|
| Naked
Cowboy: I've got songs for everybody for every
occasion, and where I don't I can come up with one quicker
than anyone on the planet. |
| Dean
S. Planet: Have you thought about publishing a
book filled of your cartoons? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I will sell and merchandise everything
under the sun with Naked Cowboy logos and meaning in them.
I am an artist of the truest sense. The comics, the boots,
hats, underwear (skidmarks), guitars, self-portraits, books,
are just the initial steps to creating a multi-billion dollar
entertainment company. |
| Dean
S. Planet: What is on the Naked Cowboy's agenda
for the 2002? |
| Naked
Cowboy: I will be performing on Times Square a
great many days throughout the summer (roughly 150-200), I
will be doing all of Europe, Tokyo, Brazil, and others. My
movie "American Icon" is going to be shopped and
purchased at film festivals around the world and you will
see me as I conquer my destiny as the "Most Celebrated
Entertainer of All Time!" |
| Dean
S. Planet: Is
there anything you would like to tell your fans? |
| Naked
Cowboy: Yeah,
do your thang!!! No one else will! Lose your fear in the faith
that only you can be who you are intended to be! |
