William "The Fridge" Perry

Chicago Bears Legend

Dean S. Planet: How is the construction business going in South Carolina? What else have you been up to since retirement?
The Fridge: My father in law and I have owned the business for some time. I think the construction business is great. Also, I have been doing a lot of personal appearances and autograph signings. My website, TheFridge.Net got over 4 million hits from my appearances on Monday Night Football and the Howard Stern Show.
Dean S. Planet: How does the Bear's 85 defense stack up to their current one?
The Fridge: Well obviously I think that our team had a better defense. We only lost one game and didn't give up a lot of points.
Dean S. Planet: How would Brian Urlacher have fit into that team?
The Fridge: He is a great player and would have been a star on either team.
Dean S. Planet: How would you rank the three starting QB's that you played with during your Bears career? (Jim McMahon, Mike Tomczak, Jim Harbaugh)

The Fridge: They were all good quarterbacks but of course I would have to put Jim McMahon ahead of the them. He did lead us to a Super Bowl.

Dean S. Planet: Do you think that this year's Bears are at a disadvantage because they aren't playing at Soldier Field, which in a sense is not giving them a true 'home' game?

The Fridge: No. The Bears should be a great team and make the playoffs.

Dean S. Planet: Whose idea was the Super Bowl Shuffle? Did you write your own verse?

The Fridge: I am not sure whose idea it was. They had writers who wrote the song.

Dean S. Planet: What was it like having your own GI Joe action figure in 86? Did you stockpile them?
The Fridge: It was great to have my own figure. I enjoyed all of the endorsements that I had over my career. I feel very fortunate.
Dean S. Planet: Do you keep in touch with Ditka or any former
teammates?
The Fridge: I see a lot of my teammates at appearances throughout the year. We try to keep in touch.
Dean S. Planet: What was it like to be in the WWF'sWrestlemaniaIIin Chicago? How did the wrestlers stack up against football players as athletes?
The Fridge: You know that was a great experience and a lot of fun being with Hulk Hogan. The wrestlers are great athletes too and have a lot of talent.
Dean S. Planet: Did you offer former teammate Steve McMichael any advice in regards to his pro wrestling venture?

The Fridge: Not really. Steve had a lot of training from the pro wrestlers who really know what they are doing.
Dean S. Planet: Do you think that you paved the way for pro athletes to follow wrestling career paths?
The Fridge: Well Vince McMahon actually paved the way for pro athletes to becoming involved in wrestling. There
were guys like Ernie "The Cat" Ladd that wrestled a
long time ago.
Dean S. Planet: What is your Super Bowl prediction for this year?
The Fridge: I would like to say the Bears, but that may not happen. If the Bears don't go to the Super Bowl, I think that the Raiders may win.
Dean S. Planet: Would you fight in a rematch vs. Manute Bol?
The Fridge: Well you know that was just fun and messing around. I would probably do it again if the fans wanted to see it.
Dean S. Planet: What are your favorite movies and TV shows and what do you like to do in your spare time?
The Fridge: I don't go to the movies a lot. I watch a lot of sports on TV. I fish a lot and do a lot of personal appearances throughout the year. nothing is better than spending a day on the lake with a fishing pole.
