A Message For Eddie Vedder
I was a serious Pearl Jam fan in high school and college; and thanks to the miracle of Usenet, I've downloaded a few shows from their current 2003 tour.

My first impression is that the band, as a whole, is quite excellent, just as they were during their "No Code" tour. Mike, Jeff, and Stone are just as I remember them. Their political strings are unattached and are only focused on the excellent music they have crafted in the past 12 years.

However, Eddie's diatribes on Republicans and other political and social themes have grown tiresome with me. Am I alone in thinking he still believes his core audience is 18 years old and still shapeable by the words he speaks?

Billy Joe doesn't really like you Eddie, so fuck off!

In actuality, listening to him is quite embarrassing. I cannot believe fans cheer when he says unintelligent things such as, "Hey I can piss in a bottle and it tastes better than Miller Lite!" (June 26 2003, Detroit). I will avoid his entire anti-war retort because his arguments are so typical and redundant of Hollywood. He is unoriginal, even though he carries himself as the only person who questions authority.

Additionally, perhaps it is just this June 26 2003 show, but Eddie seems to not be vocally trying at all during the concert. His presentation is completely generic and unemotional. He can't even correctly remember or recite the lyrics to some songs.

Eddie: Realize you are not in 1993 any more. Your audience has grown up and gotten real jobs now. Heck, some are relatively happy with their positions and the current federal administration.

Eddie, you are a dinosaur to some of us. Please forego wasting your on-stage time blabbing about how you feel in your drunken stupor. The majority of us doesn't care. Compose yourself and deliver your classic songs that we all want to hear. You are a professional, by the way.
