From
the first time I saw a Tom Green episode, Prank TV has always
makes me squirm. Punk'd, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, MTV's
Boiling Points, Crank Yankers, etc etc - all take advantage
of trusting and helpful people in order to make them look
like fools.
It
saddens me to see our few remaining good samaritans, one
after another, being ridiculed for putting themselves out
on a limb to help others, or for giving strangers the benefit
of the doubt. How about a show that mocks the assholes and
jerks of the world?
I
condemn the bullies who would engage in the vandalism of
trust for the sake of their own vanity and amusement: The
Tom Greens, the Ashton Kutchers and other others of their
ilk. I can't wait for someone on Punk'd to haul off and
punch Ashton in the face. Although, of course, if that happens
it'll never get on the air. Humiliating someone is only
entertaining to someone with extreme low self-esteem/maturity
and those days have long passed for me personally.
Most of these shows completely retarded, non- or anti-funny,
silly at best, uninspired, grotesque and one needs alcohol,
pot, opium, and a large dose of laughing-gas to even begin
smiling let alone laughing.
On
a good note, the industry could face a major blow in the
form of a lawsuit, taking place as we speak. Some guy was
hurt in a conveyor belt in an airport, a prank by the oldest
of all prank shows, Candid Camera. The show offered the
guy US$100,000 to settle and he refused, opting to sue for
millions. All he got was a bit of laceration on his leg,
nothing long term.

The most vicious of them all is the new one on MTV, called
Boiling Point. These guys are simply cruel. Like, telling
this poor, trusting, decent Asian girl that her dog was
lost, as she comes to pick him from the doggie-care. The
pranks are timed and it usually lasts from 8 to 20 minutes,
in an attempt to see if the victim will crack (or boil over).
This girl was crying and was very scared that her dog was
gone. They intend to push it too far just to see your reaction
- if you last their time limit, you make - get this: US$100.00
- if you boil over - as in, swear, get mad or threaten to
call the cops, you get nothing.
On
one of the worst episodes, this guy brings his laptop to
a store for some routine maintenance - the techie tells
him all his data is lost. The unsatisfied customer
jumps over the desk and grabs the guy by the throat. Of
course, he lost the $100.00 - but the show won by featuring
someone getting so angry as to assault someone. Another
vicious show was SpyTV - it didn't last. Wonder how long
till Boiling Point boils over.
These
show will go on until someone DIES. Until then... |
