FAHRENHEIT 9/11

There are those who criticize Michael Moore for using selective editing in his films. Those people are correct. There are those who consider his new movie, Fahrenheit 9/11, a propaganda piece that has no other purpose than to attack George W. Bush. Those people are also correct. But since the Bush administration used every underhanded trick to steal the 2000 election & lead our country into a fictional war in Iraq that hasn’t yielded any uncovering of weapons of mass destruction, not even the ones our government sold to Iraq in the 80’s, I think it’s great that Dubya & friends are getting a little taste of their own medicine.

Michael Moore may be an over-opinionated filmmaker, but we all have opinions. He just has an opportunity to share his with more people than most. His film showed clips of Dubya at his most ignorant, revealing the widely known facts of Bush’s penchant for going on vacation constantly, the president’s poor grasp of the English language & his close relationships to employees at Fox “News” Channel, the Saudi royal family & his father’s business dealings with the bin Laden family. Most have which have been well known since the WTC attacks, but most conservatives disregard them.

It may be somewhat hypocritical that Moore acknowledges the media’s agenda to keep the public in a high state of alert through fear while also showing images of dead Iraqi children, women who’ve been burnt with napalm & soldiers who have had amputations & now cope with that wonderful morphine. But he does show the Iraqi citizens as what they are, human. Some neighborhoods in Iraq look like some towns near Miami. There’s kids playing & old woman walking around. All seems like life as usual on a summer day, until 19-year-old kids who are listening to Drowning Pool drop bombs. War isn’t pretty & young Americans are being killed needlessly by people who see us as outsiders while Halliburton cashes in.

We see the way the Bush administration has taken away American freedoms while claiming to Give some freedom to people who might not have wanted it. We see how far the limits of the Patriot Act stretch as peace groups in Sacramento get infiltrated by the FBI & we see Michael Moore get accosted by Secret Service agents while standing across the street from the Saudi embassy in Washington D.C. which is several blocks from the White House. But he also shows us the sheer ridiculousness of airport security where during a time where people may have bombs in their shoes they will be allowed to carry no more than 4 books of matches & 2 butane lighters on board an aircraft.

This movie needs to be seen by everyone, including those who choose to boycott it. Know why you’re against it. Watch it even though it won’t change your opinion. If you choose to believe the BIG REPUBLICAN LIE you’re free to do so. But watch the scene where Moore stands outside Capital Hill & tries to get Congressmen to enlist their own children in the military & ask why they’re willing to send so many other children to die, but not their own.

Vote for NOT BUSH in ‘04
