I
never thought I would say that. Normally all they would
have on this channel were obscure British mystery shows
or yet another rerun of the biography of Mohammed Ali. But
recently, I'm finding myself watching more and more of it,
thanks to their recent push of reality shows. Here's what
I like:
Dog
The Bounty Hunter
If you enjoy the long running reality show Cops, you will
love this too. On the show, they chronicle the life and
times of mullet sporting Duane 'Dog' Chapman and his crew
who track down and capture criminals who are on the run.
Included in his 'posse' are his Anna Nicole-like wife, his
brother, his son and nephew. There is tons of violence and
mase gets dispensed on a regular basis. It's also fun to
see Dog's wife bitch at the women they capture, calling
them whores, crack heads etc.. But then when they get into
the car after the capture, she becomes their best friend,
often time counseling them and calling them sweetheart...
Also, Dog apparently was in the big house in his past. So,
after capturing these criminals, he tends to give them a
pep talk about how they need to take steps to change their
lives. It's very touching at times.

I love Vegas and everything that goes along with it.
I hope to get out there this summer. Of all the shows I
have seen that revolve around Sin City, this has by far
been the most entertaining. One week they featured a guy
who came into town to throw 1,000 bucks down on on 6 black.
He was starting his own business and he felt like this would
give him a nice jump start in funds. He places his chips
on 6 black and the wheel began to spin. But suddenly he
had a change of heart. He grabbed his chips and moved them
over to red. The roulette wheel came to a halt, and wouldn't
you know it, the damn ball landed on 6 black. This guy would
have walked away with 35,000. I couldn't believe my eyes...
Now that's great TV folks.

Intervention
This show premiered last Sunday at 10PM. The show profiles
people who are losing the battle with their addictions,
and whose friends and families feel the only remaining option
is to hold an intervention. Each week they feature two people
who need help with their addictions. This week they featured
some broad who was on the first 3 seasons of ER. She had
a host of problems including agoraphobia and she was a serious
shopaholic. The other subject was this guy who had a gambling
problem. I would say he was 31 or so and he was saying things
like his parents should do anything they can to help out
their child including selling their home which they actually
had to do in order to pay some of his gambling debts. This
guy was 200,000 in debt. When confronted with the intervention,
in the comfort of his parent's living room, he went ballistic.
If you caught any of the previews for the show, this is
the guy they feature. So, like a 8 year old, he yelled and
cried and blamed everyone but himself for his problems.
But like the shopaholic, he then agreed to seek some help.
Great show!

Airline
Apparently a big problem for major airlines is people being
intoxicated and attempting to board their flights. Each
episode on this show features the high points and low points
of travelers and the employees of Southwest airline and
Los Angeles International (LAX), Chicago Midway and Baltimore/Washington
International airports. Unfortunately (fortunately for us),
they are often on the receiving end of frustrated customer's
wrath, which we can all admit is entertaining to watch,
even though it sometimes makes you cringe. One criticism
I have of this show is that sometimes they feature too many
feel good stories. I don't want to see that shit. I want
to see more drunks fighting with the ticket people about
that fact that he had a couple beers with lunch and he is
perfectly sober.

Family
Plots
I just caught this show for the first time on Sunday. Take
a funeral home, a family who runs it (mostly women) and
what you end up with is mayhem, conflict and dark humor
by the casket full. I love it when Shonna, the head mortician
is arguing with a family member or Rick the boss while she
is in the middle of embalming some stiff at the same time,
as if it's just another day in the office for her. Rick,
was also engaged to Melissa, one of the sisters and assistant
funeral director. This recent breakup has added some additional
tension on the show. All of the employees except for the
boss complain that they need more help because their workload
is too heavy for the amount of people they have, but all
I see them do is go out into the garage and have smoke.
Sound familiar?
