It's crazy how a show like this can now draw big ratings in prime time. Back in the late eighties it was shown much like pro wrestling at the time, on Saturday mornings. I loved the show as a kid and I highly anticipated the new revamped version hosted by Hulk Hogan and Layla Ali.
First of all, although I love Hogan, his show on VH1 and have nothing but respect the guy, he is just an awful host. Ali isn't any better. What they should have done was gotten a seasoned host to take care of most of the broadcasting responsibilities and then maybe allowed the Hulk & Ali interview here and there during the show. Hogan is obviously reading his questions from the side of the stage and damnit, he says 'brother' too much. Ali sounds like a robot with her monotone and lacks the charisma to take on such an important role on the show. Her dad is more animated.
Another gripe I have is that they are putting too much focus on the contestants. Sure we want to know them and follow them through the competition, but they should spend more time developing the Gladiator's characters. A couple of them showed some more personality recently but other than maybe 'Wolf' and 'Titan', there aren't any really strong characters. No matter how many times they interview the contestants I am still rooting against them.
Some of the Gladiators show too much sportsmanship. Hey this is a competition, if you get your ass handed to you, don't shake the contestants hand. You are an AMERICAN GLADIATOR, which means you have the advantage. If I were a Gladiator, lets see, I'll give myself the nickname 'Planet'. If some fireman were to knock my ass into the water in the joust, you wouldn't see me over there giving the dude a pat on the butt. I would come out letting him know that it wont happen again. That next time he's the one going down BROTHER!!

On to the chicks... The producers have done a good job so far with getting hot female contestants. I have seen more pokies and camel toes on this show than on DeanPlanet.Com!!
Gina Carano aka 'Crush' is the only hot chick amongst the female Gladiators. The cool thing about her is that she could kick anyone's ass in real life thanks to her Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training. Not only does she have a massive rack, she's the daughter of Glenn Carano played for the Dallas Cowboys as a backup quarterback from 1977-1983. You can see her kicking some broads ass on YouTube by clicking here and here. Watch her weigh in for a fight here... That last clip gave me blood flow!
The only other female Gladiator I would boink is Helga. I'd smack that ass and take the next wave in!! |
