Jay-Z's Premature Retirelation
--> The Word Archive

On Sept. 25th, rapper Jay-Z announced his retirement from the music industry at a press conference.  You missed it?  Well so did most other people.  Why?  Because nobody cares.  Normally artists announce their retirement from the entertainment industry after they have had a long and meaningful career.  Jay-Z has had neither.

For example, Garth Brooks, even though country music blows, he has still accomplished a lot in his genre, he is one of the most successful solo artists of all time, at 100 million records sold and the title of arguably one of the top 5 greatest entertainers of our time. KISS retired as one of the biggest rock bands in the world with over 80 million records sold and after a couple of farewell tours. Celine Dion retired for a while and with more than 50 million records sold, she has become one of the most successful female artists of all time and sells out her each of her nightly shows in Vegas. These three artists deserve a "retirement". Is Jay Z in this elite crew?  Could he sell out Vegas every night? Will he go down in music history as one of the greatest of all time?  In 20 years will he have legions of fans following him around? The answer to all of these questions is obviously NO.

Why would he walk away from such an easy money making opportunity? How hard can it be to write a ghetto nursery rhyme and record it to a ripped off beat?  Jay-Z rarely tours and almost never does promotional stuff other than TRL appearances & videos.

I think it all boils down to the fact that this guy has too much damn money.  Instead of making records for his fans who have bought over 15 million of his pieces of crap, this lazy bum would rather retire and work on other projects.  Who cares about that fans. If this isn't a reason to download as much music as you can, I don't know what is. The record industry in in trouble yet this guy somehow finds a way to amass a fortune and retire in his early 30's.  The record execs are still rich and these mediocre rappers are still filthy stinking rich.

He also mentioned at the press conference that the reasons for the retirement are that he wants to pursue a career in movie producing and acting.  Great, just what we need.  Another rapper who thinks he can act, littering our future feature films.Here are 5 REAL reasons for his retirement:
  • He can not go on any longer in his losing battle with Nas, a real rap talent.
  • He fears for his life.  Biggie & Tupac were murdered and the recent attempts on 50 Cent lead him to believe that could be next.
  • Beyonce has him pussy whipped.
  • He is worried that someone will steal Beyonce from him so he must dedicate most of his time checking up on her.  Could he be jealous of Sean Paul?
  • Is he embarrassed that he associated himself with a future convicted sex offender on a double cd which was a flop?

What is she thinking?

Whatever his motivation is, the truth is that he has fallen short of his goal to become one of the greatest hip hop artists of all time.  And to all rap fans, check out what Jay had to say about The Notorius BIG in a song from The Blueprint (which he ripped off from BDP's 1989 release Ghetto Music: The Blueprint of Hip Hop , "If I'm not better than Biggie, I'm the closest one."
Nice thing to say about a deceased friend.  Thanks for the memories Jay.
