| I
don't know if you have been watching MTV lately, but there
has been some wacky shit going on over there. It
seems that someone (Tommy Maytola?) has been slipping the
MTV execs some cash to put this Latin singer Shakira on
the air every 5 minutes. I first caught a glimpse of
this broad at the 2001 MTV Music Awards where she presented
an award where she sort of looked like Brittney Spears'
ugly older sister. Then, I noticed that her new video, "Wherever,
Whenever", was in heavy rotation as a Buzzworthy video.
Someone please tell this bitch that America already has
the Cranberries and Tori Amos, and to go back to Univision.
A month later MTV announced this year's lineup for Unplugged,
which I have enjoyed since its conception. I was a little
disappointed in this year's lineup: R.E.M (already done),
Staind (yawn), Lauryn Hill (she was never plugged in), and
last but not least, this stupid Shakira chic. When her 'Unplugged'
finally aired, I almost shit my pants when I saw that it
was entirely in Spanish!! What's next; Celine Dion Unplugged
in French? If you come to this country and aspire to be
a star, you better learn English and re-record your foreign
album into our National language.
A
little less annoying than that chic is MTV 2's new News
anchor named Ian Robinson. They picked this bum off of the
mosh pit of a Korn concert, shoved a mic in his hand and
he went around and interviewed other fans at the concert
he was at. Well the guy must have good drug connections
or something because MTV2 hired him as a regular news correspondent.
Talk about desperate.. He wears t-shirts of critically acclaimed
bands like The Ramones, and some death metal bands but after
his spots, they play Brittney Spears. He wants to let everyone
know that he still has street credibility even though the
company that he works for spews corporate pop music down
our throats. He even went as far as to talk about some death
metal bands that are out there and urged viewers to check
them out stating, "There is much more music out there
than on the radio, go find it". So as this fat, bald,
and black clad freak gives the heavy metal "rock on"
symbol at the end of his signoff of "On MTV 2",
the world premiere of N'Sync's new video will be shown after
a commercial. He must be a tortured soul…
Last
but not least, MTV has a new show this year that had caught
my eye. "Dismissed" is a cool show where teens
learn about threesomes and pre marital sex, as a girl or
a guy
go out on a date with two people at the same time. Then
at the end of the date, the person has to choose which of
the two will be 'dismissed'. Excellent! Well as I was tuning
in one night and the liberal freaks at MTV had a gay show
with three guys!! This was shown on National primetime MTV.
The same time that millions of teens and pre-teens tune
in to watch videos!! How irresponsible can they get? I am
all for freedom to do what you want in your life, but for
MTV to advocate and promote this lifestyle for all of America's
youth to see, is downright disgusting! They already show
Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, and O-Town videos, is there any
need to take this filth to the next level?
